That’s right! We all receive the gift of an extra hour this Saturday night when we move our clocks back one hour. Time is nearly priceless to most of us and it’s the one commodity that is equally distributed to every person. None of us ever claim to have too much of it and many of us complain about there being too little. Time whizzes by. Time slips by. Time never stops.
Every fall we do this goofy thing that makes some people arrive early to church wondering where everyone is. If that’s you don’t worry, it’s happened to me too. Changing our clocks can be something cumbersome or it can be an opportunity to redeem the time. My question to you is this: what will you do with your hour?
Here’s my list of choices to consider. Maybe you’ve got some things to add.
1) Sleep – Always a winner
2) Read – Again good choice
3) Pray – Time is, after all, a gift from God

“If you could bottle that up and sell it you’d be a wealthy man!” Actually, if I had a quarter for every time I heard that I really would be a wealthy man. I want to be clear about him. He’s a great young man who is fast approaching his ninth birthday and bringing joy to our family on a daily basis. For the most part he is polite toward adults and friendly with his peers. His teachers enjoy him and we hear encouraging reports when he has visited someone else’s home. He can make a friend in about the time it takes to say “hello”. He’s also very busy. His mother and I look forward to putting our children to bed, not because they’re naughty but because we’re ready to...

Here it comes, the day when more than anything else Americans declare their choice then watch in living rooms or larger gatherings as someone from network television rambles endlessly while showing a blue and red map. In just under a month the nation will be divided by those who feel a sense of satisfaction and victory and those who brace themselves steadfastly for whatever the next administration administers. I write about “Americans” in the third person because my passport still says “Canada” on it so I find myself in a country where I don’t have an official voice when it comes to election day.
My Canadian family and friends are also ready to raise their voices and make a decision about who the next Prime Minister will be. I invite you all to pray for my home country as they cast their votes on October 14th.
Some of us are looking at the choices and wondering if there really is a good one to make. We can see that our values are being attacked and we wonder where our country is...
