How cool was it that we still got to have our Christmas Eve service even though there was snow and slush and ice and rain? How cool was it that we had the chance to celebrate the birth of our Savior? How very cool was it that everyone came and went without incident or accident? I don't know... but it was pretty cool.
Here are some of the things that grabbed my attention throughout the evening.
1) Showing up earlier in the day and seeing a parking lot that had about a 1/4 of the space available and then showing up for the service and seeing the whole thing cleared! Thank you to whoever did that! Thanks also to Lori from the Civic Center who helped us out.
2) Having Drew Pappas and Rory bring us full circle on Advent. Nice job by all the interns through out this Advent season.
3) The children were a major hit. Funny faces, laughter and good solos. My favorite moment was watching and just being "dad" as my daughter went up complete with water bottle (she was not feeling well) and doing...

Recently the news has been pelted with the story of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who is accused of selling the senate seat vacated by Barack Obama after November 4th. Pardon me for just a moment because I know he hasn’t gone to trial yet but are you kidding me? Selling the seat? To top it off he doesn’t seem to think he’s done anything wrong.
At a time when he should be red-faced, apologetic, embarrassed and ashamed he is instead defiant and belligerent. Ahem, excuse me Mr. Governor but your 3rd grade-schoolyard-bully technique is showing and yes, that is a jar at the end of your arm with your hand clinging desperately to the cookie inside it.
My sincerest and deepest sympathies go out to the fine people of Illinois.
I needed to vent that out, thank you.
Now, for something with a little more redeeming tone to it.
The recent events with the governor of Illinois along with so many other scandals and examples of power corrupting people...

My kids know it. My wife certainly knows it and now you know it too. I'm something of a "button pusher" - you know, someone who enjoys a particular reaction from someone else from time to time. I'm not necessarily bragging about it - in fact it can be an unkind thing to do especially when it gets out of control. I am learning to keep things positive when it comes to my button pushing and I think that my family would testify to the fact that they know I'm having some fun and they join me in doing so. Many times one of the kids will even say, "Dad, are you pushing my buttons?"
Here's the thing though. I can't seem to remember to push the right button. Particularly on Sunday morning. This is not a spiritual metaphor but rather a practical reality. Those of you who have visited us on a Sunday Morning may have noticed that I wear not one, but two little microphones when I preach. One is linked to the sound system and the other records the sermon so that our oustanding website team can upload it so that you can listen to it and either, A) catch what you missed, B) critique the crazy-Canadian or C) let your friends check out the flavor of Sunday morning.
