"Addicting" might be a good word to describe the experience. The unique and distinct sensation of trial, stress, struggle and anxiety melting away is rather addicting. For the past 7 1/2 years we've lived here in one of the most striking places on the planet: enveloped by the southern Puget Sound, surrounded by beautiful trees and protected by the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainier.
For all of you who live here you know exactly what I mean and where my words fail to communicate your memories and senses fill in the gaps. For those of you who haven't visited us, you should! My addicting experience brought all of this into a new and fresh perspective that I really hadn't viewed before. Myself and 3 good friends (one of whom I'm married too ) were treated to an incredible day of sailing around a small portion of the Puget Sound. When I say "treated" what I mean to say is spoiled rotten in a disgustingly good kind of a way. Yep, we were pampered due to the generosity of strangers. I could easily become a fan of sailing but that isn't the main thing on my mind at the moment.
The main thing on my mind is how the change in perspective helped me to understand and discover the level of natural beauty we live in. Seeing the Peninsula and the mountains from the water on a clear day is nothing you want to quickly forget, or leave before you have to. My perspective was altered by the pampering and feeling of buoyancy in the company of friends, of this I have no doubt!
I also have no doubt that this experience is a picture of God's love for us in a "poor reflection". As I ponder this life as well as the next I look forward to the moments when I am surrounded by friends immersed in the glory of God. To know the buoyancy of faith and the ridiculous feast of love, to understand what it means to have Jesus be "the lifter of my head" and place my gaze on His wonderful creation... this is the stuff of heaven! I "know" all about God's love, grace, mercy, holiness and power but sometimes I need my perspective changed to fully appreciate it.
My sailing adventure, complete with the pampering was a nibble of what we have in Christ but it was also a reminder that I'm still here on earth; the sunburn is evidence.
How has God changed your perspective and helped you see Him once again?

Re: Sail Away!!!
God continues to give me fresh perspective in His word! Sometimes I catch myself in the "ritual" of reading His word and not mining it for treasure, or in the most recent case rebuke!
The book of James is SO convicting to me because God has so much work to do in me with my tongue, my mouth, my outbursts of anger, and my sober self assessment of me!
Thank God that He is ever an patient, zealous God who truly wants me to have a joyful, blessed life and not walk through this Christian experience without experiencing victory over my flesh.

Re: Sail Away!!!
God really changed my perspective when I read the first verse of the first chapter of first Peter. The book is written to God's elect (yippee, that's me) who are strangers in the land. I don't want to become so comfortable here in this place that I forget that I am a stranger.
I know what it is to be a stranger in a strange land; and this verse tells me I should always feel strangely out of place here on earth. I need - no want - to be standing here with one foot on the planet and the other foot firmly placed in the presence of Jesus.
