Recently my wife and I have been in process. Decisions both large and small have been presented to us to make. Sometimes there are factors that make the decision obvious or at least fairly easy to make. Other times we find ourselves scratching our heads, talking a good long while and letting the situation "rattle around a bit".
One of my favorite statesmen of all time has some good stuff to say about making decisions. Consider his wisdom on the subject:
"You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there."
"If you don't know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else."
"Yeah, but we're making great time!" -- In reply to "Hey Yogi, I think we're lost."
"I knew I was going to take the wrong train, so I left early."
"If you come to a fork in the road, take it."
- Yogi Berra
I have learned, and am still learning, that these decisions in life that we all face are much easier to get right when we do one very important thing. Listen. More specifically, listen to God. A lot of church folks understand with their heads that God cares for them Monday - Saturday as well as Sunday but only a few people seem to practice this idea of listening to God's voice on a day to day basis. We let God into our "spiritual lives" but manage to exclude Him from everything else. Does that make sense? NO!!!!!
Walking with Jesus doesn't mean that life suddenly becomes simple or easy or luxurious but it does mean that we have someone who will never lead us wrong. "The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice." John 10:3, 4 (NIV)
I figure that since Jesus plainly knows what He's doing, knows where He's going, knows who He belongs to and who belong to Him, loves me with more than just words and actually laid down His own life so that I can live... since all that is true my best bet is to follow Jesus as closely as possible.
...And listen.

Re: Listening
An what is left is told to be obedience. "Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust an obey."

Re: Listening
I agree, friend, and we must learn to not be shocked that have found happiness as a result of listening, trusting and obeying instead of indulging.
