Back on December 4th, 2009 I wrote a few thoughts about listening to the Lord about the day to day decisions we face entitled, of all things, "Listening". Guess what, some of the things our family were working through we're still working through. Other situations have been decided and filed into the archives of our recent history. I suppose because one major decision is still firmly taking up space on our plate that my mind is turning back to this idea of listening.
Tina and I have decided that it is time for us to sell our home and find something else here on the Key Peninsula. There's no obvious moral choice here about what we do after that. We realize that we must still live within our means so that we are being good stewards of God's provision but beyond this, the possibilities are rather numerous. We've talked many times about why we want to move and what we desire to have in our new home. We've received advice and considered things like the current housing market, mortgage rates and school district boundaries. Just like any home buyer we'll go through the pros and cons of one floor plan over another and then at some point we'll decide. Our questions will become answers and ideas will be traded in for realities.
The cool thing is that we get to talk to the Lord about all this. We understand that this isn't a salvation issue but we also know that God wants us to be in step with Him in every aspect of life. We must listen intently. Perhaps He is giving us every freedom in this choice and perhaps He has something very specific in mind. We've talked to God about these kinds of things before and He has always spoken clearly to us about life decisions. When He does, all that is left is to do what He asks of us.
I'm sure that many of you are in a decision making place of life. I would invite you to open up your eyes and ears to what God has for you. Make your request known to God and be ready to do follow through on what He has for you.
And be blessed in doing so

Re: Listening #2
God has used so many different circumstances to guide and direct us over the years. We know for instance, that God speaks through His word, His people, His Holy Spirit, and circumstances.
Sometimes, we wanted to have a specific word from the Lord on something but He remained silent. . .and then He moved circumstances around to show us the answer we needed and other times we expected to be guided by circumstances and realized that His word shouted "NO!"
As you said, the key to listening is obedience.
